Futureintech is run by the Institution of Professional Engineers New Zealand (IPENZ) and funded by the government through Callaghan Innovation. Our goals are to:
- Increase the proportion of technology, engineering and science enrolments amongst total enrolments in tertiary study.
- Raise the profile of careers in technology, engineering and science as highly desirable.
- Offer school students realistic learning experiences in technology, engineering and science.
- Establish co-operative relationships between industry and education communities.
Google is supporting the STEAM ahead initiative through their Anita Borg Scholars Community program.They have nominated Alyona Medelyan, the main organiser, as the ambassador for New Zealand in 2014.
Livestock Improvement Corporation (LIC) is one of the oldest farmer-owned co-operatives, beginning in 1909 with herd testing. Now, we supply three-quarters of the country’s bull semen, as well as information and automation systems, herd testing and diagnostics to drive efficiency and productivity gains on-farm. Our R&D division has more than 50 members and includes 15+ PhD qualified scientists, researching genetics (biology and bioinformatics), analytics (statistics and computer science) and prototyping (engineering and computer science). We have 3 LIC fully-funded PhD students at Auckland University, and two others at overseas universities. We offer scholarships to students at all levels of University research for areas including computer science, mathematics, statistics, biology, chemistry and bioinformatics.
